Burroughs Mountain Trail

Distance :7 miles

Location : .Mount Rainier National Park Sunrise Area..Washington

See information on Mount Rainier National Park in the previous hike. Indian Henry's Hunting Ground.

The trails start and finish is at the Rangers Station, at Sunrise. It is a quieter and drier section of Mount Rainier National Park. White bark pine and sub-alpine fir thrive at these high altitudes, but the wildflowers of Mount Rainier are absent at this elevation.

Follow the trail pass the turn to Wonderland Trail to Shadow Lake. You will overlook Emmons Glacier, the largest glacier in 48 states. It is 4 miles long and truly magnificent. Climb steadily until you reach First Burroughs (7000 feet). Turn left to Second Burroughs (7408 feet) which looks into the snowy face of Mount Rainier.

The time for hiking is from early August to September. The Mountain Goats that frequent the tundra are a favourite with the hikers. Ask at the Rangers Station, for the best time to see them.
