Redwood Trail Loop

Distance : 6 Mile

Location : From Santa Cruz, take Highway l to Highway 9 Drive north approximately 12 miles to Boulder creek. Turn left at the stop sign in town and drive about 9 miles on Highway 236 to the Big Basin Park headquarters.

The parking lot is found immediately after you pass the park kiosk. After passing the entrance to the Redwood Trail loop, the junction with the returning leg of the trail is reached. If you turn to the left you will take the loop in reverse.

The Redwood Trail loops through one of the finest stand of ancient redwoods in the Santa Cruz mountains. Here a group of old growth trees stands guard over the trail as if they were guardians from the misty past. Many of these trees are over 1000 years old. In 1902 the California Redwood Park was established, which is now known as Big Basin Redwoods State Park -- the oldest California State Park.

Although only a short hike, it is well worth it, to see these majestic giants. "The Father of the Forest" is estimated to be 2,000 years old.
