Sawtooth Ridge Loop
Distance :51 miles Location : Northern Yosemite National Park and Toiyabe National Forest. This loop follows forested rivers, through spectacular granite canyons, and swings around the most dramatic portion of Yosemite National Park - Sawtooth Ridge. The start/finish is in Toiyabe National Forest, at Upper Twin Lake. The trail runs west, then turns south to the warm Barney Lake. It then crosses and recrosses Robinson Creek, it ascends two long sets of steep switch backs to a junction with Crown Lake Trail. The trail to Lake Peeler, turns right and you will find campsites on its east and north shores. Follow the trail on to the blue Benson Lake, where you will find a popular sandy beach and campsites on its eastern shore. The next day will find you at Matterhorn Creek, it finally enters the spectacular Upper Cirque Meadows, beneath Finger Peaks (12,264 feet). The trail traverses west through forest, passing the trail to Rock Island Pass and finally to Crown Lake with campsites along its outlet. Follow Crown Lakes's outflow stream, pass two small lakes, then 2 miles on meet Peeler Lake trail, back to Barney Lake, Robinson Creek and finally the trailhead. | |||
