Kosciuszko National Park (The Snowy Mountians)

Mt.Kosciuszko is the highest mountain in Australia. The hiking to this mountain is fairly easy, with graded walks that mean most of the peaks in this Main Range are accessible by foot, even the summit of Mt Kosciuszko itself. The park is well suited for overnight expeditions, and overnight accommodation is readily available, ranging from primitive huts to posh hotels. Prices are greatly reduced in summer time, and in fact late summer is the ideal time for hiking. The wildlife is abundant, with 202 species of birds, 35 species of mammals and more than 300 types of invertebrates.

Hikers are asked to register at the visitors centre at Sawpit Creek, or at one of the many ranger stations. Camping is not permitted at the resorts, but no permits or fees are required, for bush camping.

Mt Jagungal Circuit

Distance : 43kms

Location : The Snowy Mountains are situated in New South Wales, south of Canberra (The Australian Capital Territory)

The Mt Jagungal circuit starts at Round Mountain Hut, and summits Mt.Jagungal (2061m). The Camp clearing at the base of the mountain has clean water. Warm, wind- proof clothes are necessary, as the summit can attract snow at any time of the year.
