The Royal National Park is part of Sydney's history. It was named as a National Park in 1879. It has an area of 15,080ha. The vegetation includes coastal heath, woodlands and rainforest. The wildlife consists of wallabies, koalas, rat kangaroos, gliders, echidnas, ringtailed possums and 200 species of birds. It also has Javan Rusa deer. (imported of course), but they are doing well in this environment. The Coast Walk Distance : 27kms Location : The Royal National Park is 30kms south of Sydney (New South Wales Capital City) This walk along the entire coast of Royal National Park is one of the best coastal walks in New South Wales. The trail begins at Otford railway station. It follows the coast north till you reach Bundeena. You pass the beaches of Garrie and Wattamolla, as well as pockets of rainforest and palms. Burning palms beach is a very secluded beach and is an ideal swimming beach, but be warned, it isn't patrolled. A permit is required if you plan to camp and there are camping spots at Burning Palms, Marley Beach and Little Marley Beach. If you decide to travel by train, you can reach Otford station via Sutherland railway station, then on the return, you are able to catch a ferry from Bundeena to Cronulla railway station.
