Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge)

Nitmiluk National Park is a vast rocky sandstone plateau, with deep gorges and cool watercourses and rainforest oasis. The Katherine River spills onto the floodplains near the town of Katherine, the river snakes for 15kms through a series of spectacular gorges. The 60m walls show the true power of the water. Hiking and camping during the dry season (May to October) is extremely popular. The landscapes are diverse and access by water and hiking track are easy. Time spent hiking or camping is well worth the effort.

Jatbula Trail (Edith Falls)

Distance : 66kms

Location : Katherine Gorge(32kms North/East Katherine)

An overland walk from Katherine Gorge, north-west to the park boundary, via the Edith River. This walk can be hot on the plateau tops, but you are well rewarded with the many refreshing swimming spots and great views from the plateau. The waterfalls are spectacular, and worth the hike, for them alone. Camping at sites with amenities is available, also bush camping. A permit is required, and is available from the visitors centre. Fuel stoves are recommended. Take water, as the water holes are sometimes a fair distance apart. The walk starts from Nitmuluk Visitor Centre.
