The Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges, to the north of Adelaide (the capital of South Australia) comprise a dry mountainous region with landscape, including arid vegetated peaks and the white salt shores of Lake Frome. The rock pools or soaks attract a great range of birds and wildlife. Thousands of finches, parrots and pigeons, are joined by birds of prey such as goshawks, brown falcons and peregrines. Paralana Hot Springs, north of Askaroola, have warning signs of radioactivity of the near-boiling water. The springs have been active for millions of years, and contain radon. In the early part of the century, the thermal springs were used as a health resort, sure to cure every ailment known to man. Wilpena Pound Circuit Distance : 33kms Location : The Flinders Ranges (North of Adelaide) This circuit begins at Wilpena Chalet and travels through to Glenora Falls, Edeowie Gorge, Malloga Falls and returns to the Chalet.
