Gammon Ranges National Park
This is a dry and remote area, one that is called "all slopes terrain", meaning there is no flat land. Vegetation changes with altitude and moisture, ranging from mulga and gum to mallee shrubland to native pines to grassland. Only experienced hikers should attempt overnight excursions in this area. It is the home of the very cute, yellow footed rock wallaby. This is the only area, where he is common. Bunyip Chasm Circuit Distance : 28kms Location : 750kms north of Adelaide. The Northern end of the Flinders Ranges. The starting point for this walk is Grindells Hut in the Gammon Ranges National Park. This is a excellent overnight walk featuring a spectacular chasm. There is quite a bit of rock scrambling and climbing, so is better suited to accomplished hikers. It is a dry climb, so water must be carried. It is a very hot summer hike, much better in the winter. It is strickly bush camping, and a self supporting tent, is a good inclusion, as the ground is too rocky for pegs. FURTHER INFORMATION National Parks and Wildlife, Gammon Ranges National Park, |
