Cape Arid National Park
This National Park is on the south-east coast of Western Australia. Best known for its beautiful beaches and crystal seascapes, the park is a remote location. The vegetation of the park has evolved from the need for the flora to conserve water. The wild life of the area, include bush wallabies and the usual array of nocturnal mammals. The only Australia goose, the Cape Barren, lives in this area. By the 1960's it was almost extinct, but is now well established. Camping in the Park, is at several areas on the coastline, at Seal Creek, Jorndee Creek and Thomas River. These sites have basic facilities. The Mount Ragged camp site is in the centre of the park and is only accessible by 4W drive. Fuel stoves are necessary, and hikers should bring plenty of water. Tower Peak Walk Distance : 3km Location : Cape Arid National Park This short little walk, starts at Mt. Ragged car park and summits on Tower Peak (585m) The ancient landscape with panoramic views, is well worth seeing. Mt. Ragged is the highest point in the Russel Range. Birdlife found here include, mulga parrot, quail-thrush, heathwren and malleefowl. An unusual resident of the park is the world's most primitive ant.
